A Quick Guide to Creating Dynamic Wallpapers that Change with Day and Night on Your iPhone

Are you tired of having the same wallpaper on your iPhone all day, even when you switch to dark mode? this tutorial show you how to create your own dynamic wallpaper that changes with the daytime and nighttime. By following a few simple steps, you'll be able to enjoy a different wallpaper experience that adds life to your iPhone. Let's get started!


Gathering the Daytime and Nighttime Wallpapers

To begin, we need to select two wallpapers: one for daytime and one for nighttime. Feel free to choose your favorite images or explore other wallpaper sources, we recommedn Wallpaperize. Once you've found your wallpapers, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Photos app on your iPhone.
  2. Locate the nighttime wallpaper and tap the "Share" button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. In the sharing options, choose "Add to Album" and create a new album named "Night Wallpaper."
  4. Go back to your daytime photo and repeat the process, adding it to a new album named "Day Photo."
  5. By organizing the wallpapers into separate albums, we'll easily find them later when setting them as our dynamic wallpaper.

Creating the Dynamic Wallpaper Shortcut

To automate the wallpaper change based on the time of day, we'll use the Shortcuts app, which is free and available on the App Store. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on the "Automation" tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select "Create Personal Automation" to create a new automation.
  4. Choose "Time of Day" as the trigger for your automation.
  5. Specify the time you want the wallpaper to change. For example, set 8 AM for the daytime wallpaper.
  6. Ensure the automation runs every day of the week, and tap "Next."
  7. Now, we'll add actions to our shortcut. Tap on the "+" icon to add the first action.
  8. Search for "Find Photos" and select the action.
  9. Choose the album named "Day Wallpaper" where you added your daytime photo.
  10. Add another action and search for "Wallpaper." Select the action "Set Wallpaper."
  11. The photo from the previous action should automatically appear, but you can customize settings if desired.
  12. Adjust the wallpaper settings according to your preference, such as enabling perspective zoom and choosing lock screen and home screen or both.
  13. To ensure light mode is activated, add one more action by searching for "Appearance" and selecting "Set Appearance" to "Light Mode."
  14. Tap "Next," and toggle off the "Ask Before Running" option.
  15. Review your automation settings and tap "Done."

Creating the Nighttime Wallpaper Automation

Now, let's create a separate automation for the nighttime wallpaper. Follow these steps:

  1. In the Shortcuts app, tap on "Automation" and select "Create Personal Automation."
  2. Choose "Time of Day" again and set the time to 8 PM for the nighttime wallpaper.
  3. Add the same actions as before: "Find Photos," "Set Wallpaper," and "Set Appearance" to "Dark Mode."
  4. Optionally, customize the wallpaper settings and turn off "Ask Before Running."
  5. Review and save the automation.

Congratulations! You've successfully created your own dynamic wallpaper that changes with the daytime and nighttime on your iPhone. Now, at 8 AM, your iPhone wallpaper will switch to the daytime photo, accompanied by light mode. Similarly, at 8 PM, your wallpaper will change to the nighttime photo
